Varun Sivaram is a physicist, bestselling author, and Chief Technology Officer at ReNew Power Ventures, a multibillion-dollar renewable energy firm that is India’s largest by installed capacity. He is also an adjunct senior research scholar at Columbia University, a board member for the Stanford University energy and environment institutes, and an editorial board member for the journal Global Transitions. Most recently, he was a fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington D.C., where he directed the Program on Energy Security and Climate Change. He was also an adjunct professor at Georgetown University.

He is the author of the bestselling book, "Taming the Sun: Innovations to Harness Solar Energy and Power the Planet" (MIT Press, 2018), which the FT called “the best available overview of where the solar industry finds itself today, and a road map for how it can reach a brighter future.” He is also the editor of the book, "Digital Decarbonization: Promoting Digital Innovations to Advance Clean Energy Systems" (CFR Press, 2018).

Dr. Sivaram’s work has appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times, Foreign Affairs, Energy Policy, the Journal of Applied Physics, the Journal of Physical Chemistry, Nature, Nature Energy, Nature Climate Change, Joule, Scientific American, MIT Tech Review, and Issues in Science and Technology. Forbes Magazine called him one of the 30 under 30 in Law and Policy, Grist selected him as one of the top 50 leaders in sustainability, and PV Magazine named him the “Hamilton of the Solar Industry.”

Dr. Sivaram has previously served as senior energy advisor to the the mayor of Los Angeles and the governor of New York, and as a consultant at McKinsey & Company. A Rhodes and a Truman scholar, he holds a PhD in condensed matter physics from St. John’s College, Oxford University. He also holds degrees from Stanford University in engineering physics and international relations.

Mr. Matt Murphy is the Vice President of Fleet Management for Greenbacker Renewable Energy where he is responsible for day to day operations and maintenance, fleet performance, and technical due diligence. In his current position Matt oversees a portfolio of over 200MW of residential solar, commercial and utility solar, and wind power plants across 18 States. During his time at Greenbacker he has been instrumental in building systems and processes to enable the successful rapid growth of the Greenbacker fleet. Previously Mr. Murphy was Director of Operations & Maintenance for Borrego Solar where he oversaw a fleet of 500 Megawatts of solar power plants across 11 states. Matt managed a national O&M team and was responsible for the highest level of escalation within the department. On a daily basis he ensured that each region was performing optimally. He also served as the department’s data & communications technical expert. Previously, Matt was the East Coast O&M Manager for Borrego Solar, where he oversaw the East Coast fleet as it grew from five to fifty megawatts. Matt’s specialties included data and electrical troubleshooting, lean management implementation, risk mitigation, insurance claim management, data analysis, and CMMS infrastructure build out. Prior to joining Borrego Solar, he worked for five years at the Vermont-based electrical contracting company Peck Electric, where he was instrumental in creating and running Peck’s solar PV division (now in the top 30 solar installers in the country) and was responsible for every job function from sales to system commissioning. While at Peck, Matt oversaw the design, development, construction, and maintenance of over 5 MW of solar PV capacity. Matt also has five years of experience teaching PV construction and troubleshooting to electricians at the Vermont NJATC training center, where he prepared students for the NABCEP certification test. Matt is a licensed electrician in several states and is NABCEP certified.

In Tom’s 30 years in solar he has held a number of executive management positions. He was VP of Sales and Marketing at EPV, a thin-film PV manufacturer, and at WorldWater, a remote-power and water pumping company installing solar projects in Africa and Asia. He served as VP of East Coast Operations for PowerLight, the commercial PV pioneer bought by SunPower, where he ran SunPower’s East Coast office in Trenton, NJ, and later was VP of Commercial Development at SolarCity. In 2012 he became CEO of the start-up Solar Grid Storage that was acquired by Sunedison in 2015. He joined EDF Renewables in 2016 to help develop and deliver innovative solar and storage business models.

Tom has served the industry in various other roles, including President of MSEIA and MDV-SEIA, board member of national SEIA and PV Now, and advisor to the Interstate Renewable Energy Council. Mr. Leyden holds a BA from Princeton University.

Since 2 years Frank is expanding his expertise in battery storage technologies with strong focus on Li-ion with its different chemistries.

Frank is a physicist by training and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Freiburg, in conjunction with the renowned Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy, ISE in Freiburg, Germany. Prior to his career in PV, he was also a researcher at two laboratories for “elementary particle research” at Fermilab near Chicago and CERN near Geneva, Switzerland.

Jon Previtali is an engineer who has worked with Internet and renewable energy technologies for over twenty years. He leads technical due diligence for solar and wind power projects for Wells Fargo, one of the largest tax-equity financiers of renewable energy in the US. He also serves as an advisor to Wells Fargo and NREL’s Innovation Incubator, the DOE’s Solar Energy Technology Office and is a primary contributor to the DOE’s Orange Button Initiative, an effort to scale solar finance through more efficient data exchange.

Tor Blackstad is the CEO of GreenPowerMonitor Corporation based in San Jose, California. He has over a decade of professional experience in the solar energy sector, including deep knowledge of monitoring, SCADA and asset management solutions. He joined the GreenPowerMonitor team 5 years ago. Tor has grown the regional team of GPM to more than 1.4 GW of solar energy under management in North America, providing technology solutions for renewable energy plants and portfolios. Tor also has experience in the solar certification and regulatory compliance space from a previous role with TUV Rheinland.

Robert is the CEO and co-founder of AlsoEnergy where he has led the company to become the leading independent provider of monitoring systems for the global renewable energy industry.

Throughout his 30-year career, Robert has demonstrated broad experience across management, engineering and operations. Prior to AlsoEnergy, Robert held various positions in of Breese Hill LLC from 2005 through 2007 including C.O.O., V.P. Engineering, President and Chief Executive Officer. During this time, Robert oversaw the specification, design, prototype and manufacturing launch of three generations of computer data storage products manufactured in China, six generations of computer tape products manufactured in the U.S. and established sales and partnering opportunities in Asia and Europe. Prior to Breese Hill, Robert developed leading products for Hertrich Development, MaxOptix and Digital Equipment Corporation.

Robert's education includes a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from M.I.T and a Master of Science in Control Systems from the University of Colorado, Boulder. In addition, Robert is a Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado. He has discovered and developed techniques to reduce costs leading to six patents in the field of robotics and one in renewable energy systems.

Chris runs the Independent Power Company at Cypress Creek, focusing on maximizing the value of Cypress’ operating assets as well as the Cash Flow Available for Distribution (CAFD). Prior to this role, Chris managed a development pipeline of over 240 MW of solar projects for Cypress across the U.S., including in Texas, New York, and Maryland.

Prior to Cypress, Chris worked for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, where he led the development of air regulations on utility scale power plants. Prior to joining the EPA, Chris worked with California electric utilities such as Southern California Edison, Pacific Gas and Electric, and San Diego Gas and Electric on the development, implementation, and evaluation of demand response and demand side management programs.

Chris holds a B.A. in Environment, Economics, and Politics from Claremont McKenna College, a Masters of Environmental Management from Duke University, and a Masters of Business Administration from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
